How to Tell a True War Story
1.Because I feel like it accurately represents a lot of soldiers lives before and after deployment or death especially when their loved ones leave them when theyve been amputated. Even worse when they’ve gone through hell and back an everyone assumes their endeavors were just fake events to genereate hype or boast, or too gruesome to believe.
“‘...you won’t believe.’ ‘Probably not ,’ I said. ‘You won’t. And you know why?’ He gave me a long tired smile. ‘Because it happened. Because every word is absolutely dead -on-true.’’(70 O’Brien)
2. Rat because he kind of embodied my personality. I am a person who get very close to people and they become like family to me very quickly and easily; however, I am also the kind fo person where if anyone were to ever talk poorly about my family I begin to lose control over what I do, and in that sense both me and rat are very similar and related.

I agree with your thoughts on their development as characters on this issue. When they lose someone, whether they're a big part of their life or a tiny one, death is very real and very tragic. It's interesting to see how each character reacts to each death in the stories.
ReplyDeleteI thought that was an interesting chapter as well, getting to learn about war stories and how tragic they can be. I also like how you compared yourself to a character from the book, Rat is a good character as well, he is an interesting guy and a good storyteller.
ReplyDeleteHi Saket! I like what you said about the chapter "How to Tell a True War Story" because it really puts into perspective how bad some of their experiences were during the war. We really have to think about the fact that their stories are so crazy it causes us not to believe them, but most of the time, the craziest ones hold the most truth.
ReplyDeleteI liked How to Tell a True War Story the most as well. I agree with you on how it very accurately describes the soldiers up close and personal, and how the war truly affects them. They go through a lot, and many people don't understand just what they go through.
