Exploration 3 by Tej Patel

One story that stood out to me from the book was called “The man I killed”. The reason why this story stood out was because the way it was written. O’Brien describes the person he killed with a grenade in My Khe. The way he describes the body is very catching. He describes the body in very detail. One direct quote I liked from this part was, “His jaw was in his throat, his upper lip and teeth were gone, his one eye was shut, his other eye was a star-shaped hole....”(O’Brien,118). The reason I selected this quote was because it caught my attention as soon as I started to read this story. He looks at the body in detail like a scholar and describes what he sees to the audience. While reading his descriptions, I could picture everything he was seeing which was very amazing.

One character that stands out to me is Tim O’Brien. The reason why he stands out as a character from the others is that he is very detailed and descriptive with his stories. He shares what is going on around him, but he also shares what is going on in his mind. Many times it feels like we are sitting right in his mind and seeing and thinking everything together.

  1. That was also a compelling story to me, I couldn't imagine having to kill a man.

  2. I completely agree with you Tej i don't think I would be able to kill a man simply because I was told to do so without a compelling reason why.
