Growing up I had always played football, I was familiar with the game and the lingo within the locker room. I expected high school football to be much of the same but when I entered the locker room on the first day I was greeted with a completely different atmosphere. I had to spend most the year adjusting to longer practice times, a new playbook, new players around me and on top of that I was moved to a new position. Eventually I was able to learn everything and I became more comfortable with that specific team then I had ever felt with any other team I had been on.
I believe that sports has the power to change the lives of young people for the better. Sports have been a big part of my life for many years now and they have helped shape me into the person I have become today. Before I joined sports I would describe myself as a kid with an overall weak personality, I didn't have a lot of friends and I wasn't really part of any groups. When I joined football my fourth grade year I felt comfortable in a group where I felt I belonged, I also felt more confident in myself. Throughout the years I have made many more friends through a variety of different sports, I've been molded by some great men who have coached me, and I've been able to find out who I really am because of sports.
