Exploration 3 Alex Rager

A story that meant a lot to me would be in the chapter On the Rainy River.  This chapter really goes into detail about how he was feeling about getting drafted.  I feel it has the most detail in the book and truly makes you feel for him.  A quote that stands out from the chapter is "And right then I submitted.  I would go to war - I would kill and maybe die-because I was embarrassed not to" (O'Brien 57).  This quote stands out to me because it shows the power behind the war.  If you didn't submit to the war you would be outcasted from people you loved.  It was overall a really important chapter in his life and in this book.

The character that stands out the most is Jimmy Cross.  He stands out so much because he is always taking blame for when people die.  This is especially prevalent when Lavender dies.  When Lavender dies he blames him self for being distracted.  He commonly takes blame for when people die and assumes the role of a leader for his men.  Overall he is a good person and someone that takes blame so others don't have to.

  1. War is not always about fighting and blood its about power that comes within. On the rainy river describes what it means to take care and be a part of a team! And being a war hero above all.
